New Dates Announced for WAA(S) 2015
Singapore, 1 April 2015 — New dates have been confirmed for World Autism Awareness (Singapore) 2015 (SAA(S) 2015). Initially scheduled to begin on 27 March 2015, the WAA(S) 2015 was postponed as a mark of respect for the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore's first Prime Minister.
WAA(S) 2015 will now begin today with Light Up for Autism, a month-long campaign during which iconic buildings in various parts of Singapore will light up in blue. This year, individuals can join in by "lighting up in a different way" — for example, by wearing something blue, taking a picture of something blue and using that their Facebook banner image, or changing their computers' desktop image or screensaver to something blue. Light Up for Autism will run for the entire month of April.
A highlight of the annual WAA(S) events, the Public Showcase, will move from its usual Orchard Road venue into the heartlands. It will be held from 5.00pm to 7.30pm, on Friday, 22 May, at Ang Mo Kio Central Stage. The Showcase will feature dance and music performances by children, youths, and adults with autism, as well as an art exhibition, including "live" drawing onsite by persons with autism.
WAA(S) 2015 will also feature an Autism Seminar for parents and caregivers on Monday, 27 April, and a Living with Autism Medical Symposium for medical, healthcare, and allied healthcare professionals on 9 May.
