SAAS Students and DAC Clients Help with Project Joy

Singapore, 28 July 2015 — Selected classes of students from St. Andrew’s Autism School (SAAS) and clients from the Day Activity Centre (DAC) run by St. Andrew’s Adult Autism Services (SAAAS) helped pack goodie bags for Yayasan MENDAKI’s Project Joy.

DAC clients joined volunteers from the Land Transport Authority to pack goodie bags over two days in the last week of June. SAAS students then took over, packing the bags over two days in the first week of July.

Started in 2002, Project Joy reaches out to families in need through the distribution of goodie bags of food rations during Hari Raya. From an opportunity for MENDAKI staff to give during the fasting month, Project Joy has grown into an opportunity for partners and volunteers to work with MENDAKI. Last year, the project involved 400 volunteers and benefitied 500 families. This year, in celebration of Singapore’s 50th birthday, Project Joy reached out to 600 families, including 100 non-muslim families.
