Open House @ SAAC
Singapore, 30 March 2016 — St. Andrew’s Autism Centre (SAAC) is inviting its neighbours, friends, partners and the community at large to enter the world of a person with autism, with a Concert and Open House this Saturday.
Organised in collaboration with two of SAAC's neighbours, Siglap South Community Centre and Yayasan Mendaki, the Concert and Open House entitled "In My World: Neighbours Getting to Know Neighbours" will be held at SAAC's premises at 1 Elliot, from 9.30am to 1,00pm on Saturday, 2 April 2016. Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) and Ministry of Education (MOE), will grace the event as guest of honour.
Highlights of the event, held as part of the World Autism Awareness (Singapore) [WAA(S)] 2016 Campaign, will include a concert featuring performances by students and clients at SAAC, as well as performers representing Mendaki and Siglap South CC. The day will also witness the launch of the Day Activity Centre's Urban Farming Pilot Project, and include Centre Tours, with a chance to win tickets to the play "Falling" by Pangdemonium.
World Autism Awareness (Singapore)
In 2007, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared 2 April each year as World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD). In Singapore, observance of WAAD was first initiated by Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Benjamin Sheares College and four autism partners, including SAAC. Together we launched an annual autism advocacy campaign, World Autism Awareness (Singapore).
This year, we are glad to also have AWWA on board as a collaborative partner for the campaign.
We invite you to join us and lend us your support as we advocate understanding, acceptance and inclusion of persons with autism and their families in our community.
