Day Activity Centres (DACs)

We endeavour to help our clients work toward independence through training and support in daily living, recreational, vocational, and community skills. We believe that adults with autism can find meaningful engagement, hope, and to some extent, work, when supported and equipped with these skills.

Clients are supported based on their assessed needs. Those with the potential for employment, whether full-time, part-time, or supported, are trained in one or more of the following vocational skills — Horticulture, Retailing, Laundry.

Clients who may not be ready for vocational training, but show emerging signs of potential for simpler work tasks are given opportunities to develop by exposure to light production work and other pre-vocational skills.

The main focus for clients who require a higher level of support is for each client to become as independent as possible. The key would be to help them to learn to manage their behaviour and handle as many daily living tasks as possible for themselves.
